Portraits of the Dead by John Nicholl
3.0

Many thanks to TBC on FB for gifting me a copy of this audiobook for an honest review.

After reading White is the Coldest Colour by John Nicholl I was very excited to read Portraits of the Dead.

As per his previous book the bad guy in this book was definitely badder than bad, in fact he was downright despicable!

The thought of being taken from my bed in the middle of the night and waking up in a dark room with no windows or light just makes me shudder, and listening to some dirty old man talking to me over a microphone with only speakers in the room is even more chilling!

The book was off to a fantastic start and was really good up to the 60% mark, however it seemed to go slightly downhill for me after that.

The writing was still brilliant, but it seems to me that Nicholl was maybe trying to get a quick finish to the book, and it seemed quite rushed at the end, so everything was tied up with a nice blood red bow!

Also. John, I can't believe what you did to Rankin!!!!!

Another great choice of narrator again he really made the Welsh accent work.

Another great read, but just short of 4 Stars for me.
