This novella was hard to read both because of the writing and the things that happen in it. It's a reimagining of the eighteen months Benito Juárez spent in New Orleans after being exiled from Mexico. While there with other exiles, he witnesses multiple injustices and plans a revolution along with his eventual return to Mexico. The descriptions of the food, music, smells and everything else are so vivid that it became overwhelming so I kept having to put this down despite how intrigued I was. Even though this book can be challenging to read it is definitely worth checking out.
