This book was great.
I would have loved this book even more if I had read it as a 12 year old, I'm sure.

This story is narrated by Mira, who is 12 years old and hilarious, candid, so relatable. It is written as a diary in present tense.
Mira writes realistically as a 12 year old, yet also deals with deep things. During the course of 1 month, she experiences her Nana's cancer up close, first love, family issues, bullying, and she learns a lot about how to be true to herself.
I hate it when people write a story about children for children and because of that they make it unrealistically simple, with a dim main character who only learns one lesson or whatever by the end of the book. Children are generally underestimated - they're not as stupid as some people make out. Sita Brahmachari accurately brings Mira to life in a way that makes you love her so much.
A brilliant first novel from Brahmachari, I'll be reading more of her work.
