Mistakes Were Made
by Meryl Wilsner
Things this book did really well:
- characters who are clearly in love and in a relationship but the fact that they don’t realise that feels realistic
- not having a third-act breakup, but instead having a time limit to the characters realising how they feel about each-other and working up the courage to tell each-other
- a side character finding out a thing, having an emotion about it, dealing with that emotion, and then acting on their knowledge, all without being told about it, only hinted, so the reader has to pick up on it themselves
- having a long section at the end where we see the characters in their relationship, how their relationship fits into their lives, how their relationship fits in with their friends, and how their lives progress, etc. Of course, I still want more of this, like, I want to see Cassie and Rachael become friends, and how the three of them interact in a group, and I want to know more about Cassie’s job! But hopefully we will get a short story follow-up one day?
