I've been reading this book while caring for my mom while she recovers from knee surgery. We don't talk books- she always saw them as a luxury of time while they were a necessity to me. But in her boredom, she asked me about it. I was able to tell her the myth of King Arthur and Camelot for the first time, explain what a gay-by was, and talk why queer retellings are important.

Gwen and Art are not In Love is a fabulous book- FUNNY, lovable, joyful. It is well-written and engaging so that even the "boring" political machinations and religious world-building was fascinating enough for a book on its own. I will forever be a devotee of Lex Croucher now. But truly, the reason this book will stay with me is that it helped bridge a gap between my mom and me. It's a rope bridge with no slats yet and the canyon we slung it across is especially windy, but it's something. We all have to start somewhere and I'm glad Gwen and Art were there to start with me.
