The Taste of Her by Jess Lea
  1. Severina: Not a huge fan of this. Just seemed over-the top and bizarre. Mostly couldn’t stop tho king about real-life workplace harassment in fashion outlets.
  2. Illumination: The twist at the end was nice and interesting, and I liked the metaphor of the eagle, but overall didn’t find that all the pieces fit together as well as I would have liked. Unfortunately it felt like a “the whole is less than the sum of its parts” situation.
  3. A Literary Lesson: This story was fun and cheeky enough that I looked past the workplace harassment issues 
  4. The World Turned Upside Down: A beautiful story set in 1920s Berlin, but with such a tragic ending it felt out of place in the collection.
  5. Making Up: Probably my favourite story in the whole collection. A romance between two makeup artists on the set of a soap opera, that played out like a soap opera. Both heartwarming and very funny.
  6. A Good Show: set in the British punk scene. The first half of the story was nice, but I didn’t feel the second half added anything.
  7. Candy Topping: A fun premise, although the dynamic of young rockabilly hipster and older woman who hates hipsters, seems to be a favourite of the author (it’s also used in A Curious Woman), and her obsession with hipsters feels at least a decade out of date.
  8. A Different View: An interesting premise
  9. Ephemera: I liked this one
  10. Last Stand: Couldn’t really focus on anything that happened in this once I twigged that it’s a Warhammer 40k fic
