what did i just read!?!?

3.5 stars

this book is a bit of a strange and purposefully provocatively gross that i am still unsure what to actually think about it.

because it think the author did a fantastic job in creating a fearful and horrific environment. maybe he overdone it a bit with piling on all the horrors of most people (not finding your child in a dangerous situation, losing your teeth without reason, being sick in a bad situation, not helping others, internet not working and not getting news or being able to figure out what’s going on, strangers in your house...)
but he did all those things pretty well and combined them in a way that worked and didn’t necessarily felt overdone.

i didn’t really connect with any of the characters -because the writing was a bit too unappealing to me in the way that at the beginning the characters are too specialized and i also didn’t like how the daughter is always in some way described as fat in not very subtle but not direct ways. one because i don’t think it’s a nice thing to do in general -body shapes are different for everyone and let’s just normalize that it’s okay to be what shape you are as long as your healthy!- but i hate it if it’s a talked about topic in regards of kids!
of a kid is under 10 years old (which the daughter is!) the body changes sooooo much and mentioning that she’s rounded and full and soft... i just don’t enjoy that at all. but maybe i am a bit too tuned in on that topic because i hate it so much.

the other thing i didn’t like was the ending. it’s too open. it’s too unclear and unresolved and made me feel a bit as if the entire book wasn’t necessary at all because nothing was solved or resolved at all.

all in all? it’s a pretty well done horror suspense.
the author manages to gross the reader out and sets a fearful and pretty dreadful setting and so he clearly achieved what the books supposed to do.

so if you want something fast to read but makes you feel something?
definitely a good one

just be aware of the genre and don’t go in expect something it’s not!
