Like its predecessors, the third entry in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series is, again, an easy and funny read. Its is filled with moments of folly that make you giggle whilst being amazed at Adams’ creativity and his uncanny ability to create words and stories out of nothing and, sometimes, for no reason at all. As always, the writing feels fresh, although, at this point, without the wow factor that hits you right on the nose when reading his first books of the series. “Life, the Universe and Everything” is perfect escapism and complete nonsense, which is exactly what you would expect from Adams and the reason for reading the series in the first place. Nonetheless, I found myself getting bored at the apparent lack of story-advancing-function of the umpteenth random digression and I was at times longing for some development, of any kind, really. To be honest, though, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is not the series you should pick up if in the mood for anything else other than beautifully written complete and utter silliness.
