THIS BOOK ALL ACTION, ALL THE TIME. I loved how easy it was to devour in such a short amount of time! Deonn does an incredible job progressing the story in this sequel, though I have no clue what I'm going to do while I wait for the next one. 

When she reveals Sel mesemered Bree?? And he's actually falling to his demon half? I SCREAMED. But the fact that Bree comes around eventually and forgives him...SO THRILLED. When Arthur actually possesses Bree???? But Nick and Sel pull her out??? And the big reveal that Erebus is actually the Shadow King! Like seriously, what the actual heck is going to happen in the next book?

Basically, Deonn can do no wrong and I am waiting IMPATIENTLY for the next installment to see what magic she weaves next.
To close with a quote from her author's note that I think best encompasses the amazing things she's doing for Black girls and women everywhere with these books: "While I believe Black women are magic, we are also human. Though we cannot be our ancestors' every wish, we often feel compelled to try. This, too, is a manifestation of intergernational trauma and grief. In the Legendborn Cycle, I explore how these processes can play out in families, between Black women, and within Black girls" (p. 555). I cannot praise this series enough for its creativity, depth of character exploration, and beautiful imagery. Deonn is an artist.
