A Dog's Purpose
by W. Bruce Cameron
I really enjoyed this book. It follows the life of a dog through several reincarnations as he builds to find his purpose. I don't believe in reincarnation and I found the narration from the dog a little awkward at first, but I came to really enjoy the story. Both the good and the bad of humanity are represented in their interactions with the dog - or those surrounding him. The balance was very well worked out. There were pieces of my own pets that I could identify with in the actions of the dog as he continued his journey - I think that made me love the story even more. I became hooked after the start of the second lifetime and I struggled to put the book down. Though somewhat fantastical, the charm of this book overwhelms the need to be practical and realistic. I found that I didn't mind the fact that such a story was far fetched. It was beautifully written. I will definitely read this book again.
