Heavy: An American Memoir
by Kiese Laymon
CW: addiction, weight loss, extreme exercise, gambling, domestic abuse
5/5 ⭐️
My sister in law recommended this book to me and I am so glad she did. Laymon describes living in a heavy black body in Mississippi, the Deep South of the U.S. Laymon uses beautiful prose and essays to convey to the reader the struggles faced every day of growing up black in America. Of carrying that weight. Even though this book was not written for me, I learned so much; more than I ever imagined I would. Laymon is a brilliant and beautiful writer and I can’t wait to pick up another book by him.
I listened to this on audiobook and would recommend. I love a good memoir on audio!
