Batman: Year One
by Frank Miller
*2.5
So, I know I’m gonna offend a lot of people with this rating, and I a guess I’m sorry? I’ve been really really into Batman and the batfamily lately. The Batman movie that came out this year was an eye opener for the hidden DC stan within, and since watching that movie, I’ve been watching a lot of DC content. And with that, I’ve been meaning to start DC comics. So officially, this is the first Batman comic I’ve ever read.
Unfortunately I don’t have many positive feelings about this one. I didn’t have many feelings about the art style, and I found the text to be confusing sometimes. The story was a little hard to follow, and for this being Batman year one, we sure didn’t get a lot of Bruce/Batman POV. A lot of this story follows Jim Gordon’s POV, which was interesting, but it was a little annoying. I just wanted more Batman POV content & stuff, and I wasn’t very satisfied with how the story played out. Bruce just didn’t really do anything at all. I honestly thought this would be a story of ‘one shots’ that took place within Batman’s first year as Batman, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations.
This wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t something I’m gonna think about regularly.
