The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
5.0

This is a story about a family and how each member decides to handle the German invasion of France during World War II. We have Vianne who is the mother to Sophie and who is awaiting her husbands return from the war. Vianne's sister Isabelle who is trying to find her place in the world. Isabelle has some strong beliefs and wants to do whatever she can to fight against the Nazi's.

This story blew me away it took me about a month to read this book because I was having a bit of a reading slump but this book was so good I couldn't just put it to the side. I connected to the characters so much and the struggles each sister was facing through out the story. I loved seeing Isabelle grow as through out the story and the lengths she went to because she knew she had to do what was right.

Vianne also really grew through out the story from the quiet timid woman just waiting for her husband to come home to the woman who was willing to fight to protect her children. At the beginning of the story we learn the Vianne and Isabelle's mother died when they were both young and the death of their mother had a huge impact on the sisters as well as their father.

I loved the atmosphere of this novel! I felt like I was really with Isabelle on her Nightingale missions. I felt like I was with Vianne in her home as a German soldier billeted in her home.

This story was fascinating and I can not wait to read more from Kristin Hannah.
