The Elementals
by Michael McDowell
This may well be a 4 Star read that has been turned into a 5 star by the excellent performance of R.C. Bray on the audible version. One day I will have to reread it to find out. And it is worth a second read.
In the Novel we have all the elements of a good haunted house story, combined with some quirky southern (American) characters. More Gothic Novel than Horror, this story relies on intriguing the reader with the dynamics of the McCray and Savage families until the Supernatural elements appear towards the end of the tale. The use of the 13 year protagonist to explain the Southern family dynamics and discover the truth behind the third house really worked for me.
This book is recommended to anyone who likes Gothic and Haunted House tales.
