Wendy Darling: Volume 1: Stars
by Colleen Oakes
A very unique yet very accurate retelling of a classic story. Oakes tells the story of how the Darling children came to Neverland and the story of Peter Pan.
It’s a much darker story then we’re used to though. Peter is not the innocent, sweet boy we know, Tink is even more malicious and is madly in love with Peter, and Hook is even more malevolent than we thought. Wendy is a bit of an idiot and John is just downright cruel in this book and neither realize how dangerous Neverland is until it’s too late.
This was definitely a captivating story and I’m excited to find out what happens next! The book ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you biting your nails with the vivid images Oakes paints for you. I did find the book frustrating at times because of how clueless Wendy was portrayed at times but I keep having to remind myself that it was a different time then and it is just a book. If she wasn’t always so naive there wouldn’t be a story.
She really is a phenomenal author and I wish she received more recognition for her work!
