Honey Girl
by Morgan Rogers
I really wanted to like this book. The idea sounded great, but it’s not a romance and the spontaneous Vegas wedding to a stranger had almost no impact on the plot. There were a lot of unbelievable moments that pulled me out of the story, like what researcher doesn’t immediately Google their mysterious and attractive wife? While the characters were diverse, they also felt underwritten and at some points stereotyped. The book as a whole was really repetitive (so much about what it means to be a Porter, the military, her hair, having a plan, etc). I did really relate to the description of burnout, and maybe if I’d expected a burnout story instead of a romance I would have enjoyed it more.
