Nova
by Cara Clare
I wanted to enjoy this book a lot more than I did just based on troupes, including but not limited to; abusive ex, reverse harem, hidden powers, hot sex. This was the first book in a trilogy and I didn’t bother reading the second 2 books, which feels more damning than it should but meh. Basically Nova escapes as her boyfriend is about to kill her by burning down the building even though she is supposedly a normal human. Her boyfriend is part of an anti-magic hate group so she skips town to try and escape their anger. She stumbles into a small town and meets 4 hot magical dudes. While I really enjoy polyamorous pairings it can be hard to develop 2 characters well much less more than that and this book really suffers from that issue. Some of the characters are more flushed out than others and I am sure that the next few books will probably expand them further but sloppy character development really bugs me. Honestly, there wasn’t anything wrong per-say with this book it just wasn’t really worth much attention and unfortunately was the first in a string of kind of meh books I read.
