A River in Darkness: One Man's Escape from North Korea
by Masaji Ishikawa
What an utterly heartbreaking story of Masaji Ishikawa’s fight for survival. The fact that this was not only his, but hundreds of thousands of other people’s reality, is just absolutely devastating. Although a fairly short memoir, it took me some time to get through because it was hard to read about the very real, horrific conditions he and countless others had to live through.
I hope he found peace, in some form, after all.
