They Called Us Enemy by Justin Eisinger, Steven Scott, George Takei
5.0

Rounded up from 4.5. Graphic memoirs are having a deserved moment, and I can't think of many that deserve that moment more than George Takei's story of his family's imprisonment in U.S. internment camps during World War II. Part sophisticated TED Talk, part childhood memories, all unsettling, inspirational, enraging, educational, and powerful observations and recollections.

I assumed that I would learn a little and be moved a lot by the plight of 5-year-old George and his brother. Instead, I learned far more than I anticipated and was moved most by the impossible position Takei's parents were put in and the grace and strength they demonstrated.
