Bug's house is haunted, but doesn't mind. The ghosts are rarely seen, but always feel present. Things have changed since Bug's Uncle Roderick died, however, as the ghosts seem to bear an urgent message. Bug is beginning to feel scared of them for the first time. There are also money worries so home may no longer be home. It doesn't help, either, that best friend Moira is insisting they get used to boy talk and wearing makeup before they start middle school. Bug needs time to figure things out, is one summer enough?

I always like a good spooky middle grade novel. 'Too Bright to See' delivers some thrills and a sensitive story about gender identity.
