it’s a good First book that shows a lot of potential and is clearly set up in a way to prepare for the long series that this book became part of.

the writing is super easy to read and fun but not too simple, the characters are good and well enough fleshed out that you get a sense of them but not overly described that it gets boring.

what i found just okay was the actual plot of the book. i found the entire connection and how it all build up over the book too easy and too much of „right little idea came at the right moment“ instead of actual well thoughtful and plotted story.
that is to say i expected a bit more then a pretty simple murder mystery with supernatural elements.
my own fault, but with all the great shows this book get thrown in with i just expected a bit more of a „wow“ effect with the plot.

it wasn’t bad but it could have been done about less ... i guess clunky feeling?
it all just felt very generic and already done with everyone belong harry is the bad guy for no other reason then why the hell not?

still the idea of a wizard working with the police and trying to do good, that’s interesting enough that i want more of the series but i hope the plot gets a bit less sterio typical and a bit more unique to fit the idea of the entire series.
