Paper Girls, Vol. 3
by Brian K. Vaughan
Honestly I could probably copy and paste my review for volume 2, and drop it here. The art continues to wow me and the plot continues to confuse me (in an I’m entertained and need to know whats going on kind of way). But overall volume 3 was just a lot more fun and entertaining than vol 2.
Unfortunately we still don’t get many clear answers here, but the story doesn’t prompt any new questions in this volume, so I personally was fine with the lack of answers because at this point it just feels like I’m along for the ride with the characters. Also this one does give a more solid suggestion of what to expect throughout the series. Two things are becoming pretty clear here: 1) Each volume appears to take place in a different time zone, I think this can be really promising for an epic conclusion when everything starts falling together. 2) I think it is pretty clear that all of the characters we meet will end up being important at some point in the story. I was worried after volume 2, that we would be meeting a lot of throwaway characters throughout the volumes, but vol 3 left me with the impression that we will see them again.
Volume 3 also has a lot of things that seem pretty promising for the rest of the series, and I’m excited to continue on with the series when it is released, not just because of the plot but also because of the characters! So that’s nice. I’m hoping that there is some potential for a nice slow burn romance, as well as some room to watch a character who has a lot of prejudice learn to see past these things. I still think this series can do a lot I just hope it hurries up and does some of it before I get bored/tired of waiting. Fingers crossed for some big moves in the next volume!!
