Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two by Jack Thorne, John Tiffany, J.K. Rowling

Removed rating. F*ck JKR.

I enjoyed this book/play. I still wish though that this was an LGBT+ story or that Scorpius didn't pine after Rose like that. I didn't like the message that 'pity is the first step to a girl's heart'. I'm not sure how healthy that message is towards children.

Another reason why this could have been a nice LGBT+ story is this quote from Harry: 'Slytherin, Gryffindor, whatever label you've been given - I know - know - that heart is a good one - yeah, whether you like it or not, you're on your way to being some wizard.'
Our society is quite good in giving out labels. Albus and Scorpius don't fit in. Both because of their society's expectations and rumors. I loved their friendship, though. Friendships are wonderful things.

Furthermore, this is a story about parents and their children struggling to find a balance. Both sides have to accept that the other isn't perfect and can't be what they expected.

I disliked Ron a bit. In my opinion, his character seemed to be there most of the time for a comic relief while Ron is some much more than that. He had a few touching moments with Hermoine, though.

About the Time Turners, I liked it. Sometimes - or well - most of the time history doesn't seem fair. People are killed for the most stupid reasons. Whether it is the color of their skin, what they believe or whether they were the 'spare'. I can see why they would like to change that, to save one life. But history happened how it happened and it brought us here and we can't change it whether we'd like to or not. I liked the apocalypse AU. It was a nice what-if.

I can also see Bellatrix desire to lay with Voldemort since she was basically obsessed with the man. It might also explain the reaction Voldemort had with Bellatrix was killed by Mrs. Weasley, which was very emotional for Voldy.

So this my opinion. It wasn't the best of stories. Certainly not if you compare to the other Harry Potter stories but it was OK and enjoyable and more I hadn't really expected from it.

EDIT: this review has a lot of good points, though. I'd forgotten the information about the Time Turners in the Prisoner of Azkaban so that makes no sense. Neither does Cedric Diggory becoming a Death Eater. And the Bellatrix/Voldemort thing. I recommend it to put things in perspective. It's probably because J.K. Rowling didn't write all of it? I don't know. It's too bad that it crashes through the canon story.
Here's another article about the Time Turners that I liked.
