I feel kinda bad, rating a book about a man’s personal experience of surviving Auschwitz so low, but it just… wasn’t very good. The writing was awful, it felt like I was reading a report or something? Like: “then he did this and she said that and then this happened and then they went there”. There was no depth to the characters and they didn’t really have any distinguishing personality traits. This book contains such heavy and gruesome subject matter and I’m reading about horrific historic events that happened but somehow I’m not really having an emotional reaction to it? And I’m a big crybaby guys! I really don’t need much to set me off, so there must be something really off with this book for it to leave me so cold.
Add to that apparently Heather Morris’ research was very flawed and the books is full of factual errors? Yikes.
