Dracula by Bram Stoker
3.0

This book is a 'must read' for my horror literature class for next semester, so I decided to be smart and read it a couple of months in advance. I annotated and marked the pages where the "horror" genre really shines through and words that I do not know since I'm Icelandic. That really took a while, and I felt that the story is so complicated and not an easy read.

The story itself is good, if you're into vampires. I thought it was quite slow-paced, and they spoke about nothing for pages and pages! I've enjoyed a few vampire stories in the past, movies, tv shows, and books, so I had high expectations for this story, as it's one of the first vampire stories ever written. I was disappointed; I expected this to be at least 4 stars.

I'll admit that a big part of my rating is based on my experience reading it. I am not a native English reader, so I had to google a word (or whole sentences) every couple of pages, which ruined it for me.. This is an old story, written in 1897, so the language will shadow that. I've read many older books throughout school, and I've never had this issue, especially not this drastically! I've never had to skip an entire paragraph because I don't understand over 80% of what's said!

The book is fine, the story itself is good, and I loved many of the details in vampirism and their abilities. I would not reread this book, which sucks because I will need to brush up on the book as my classes start.
