Donny Cates is hands down one of the best writers out right now. Between Babyteeth, Redneck, Thanos, and (from what I hear) venom, this guy is on FIRE. Can he fix the Inhumans? Make them really interesting? Well...
This is the story of Vox. He's on a mission to kill all Inhumans. This 5 issue mini-series really focuses on the burden of our King. Black Bolt is going through a lot and when Vox begins to hunt down his people the King tries to stand up for himself. Right off the bat Vox comes in as a threat, leaving a message, and a first strike that our heroes don't see coming. Will they be able to stop this creature?
Good: There's some great moments. One of Black Bolt breaking through the ranks of the Krell. Also a shocking moment of a near death experience. I also thought the ending, while tad anti-climatic, had a pretty dark turn.
Bad: The art...sorry...I just do not like at all. It feels static a lot of the time and the fights come off kind of blah. I also thought the plotting, while decent, didn't really do much knew. It almost played it a tad safe. I didn't care about the deaths in here because, well, the ones who die aren't major characters we really know.
Overall this is meh. I had very very high expectations after Cates other work. It's mostly the art that ruins it for me. If the art was better I can push it to a 3 but I can't go past a 2.5 on this one.
