Reckless Refuge
by Catherine Cowles
Okay, but this was so good?! I really loved this. This is the second best in the series for me (but it's super close) and is everything you could want in a good book. This is darker than her other books, and by far the darkest in the series, so be warned. Shay is the caretaker for an island and rarely leaves or talks to anyone because she's running from a psychotic brother who killed her parents. The family who owns the island sells it to a famous artist who is running from a past of his own. Shay and Brody slowly dance around each other on the island and eventually start to open up to one another, and it's beautiful to see how their relationship blossoms, particularly Shay because of how much of a recluse she was and how scared she was to get close to anyone. I absolutely LOVED the amount of care and adoration and reverance Brody showed Shay, especially when it came to the scars she was so ashamed of and insecure about. It's a Catherine Cowles book, so expect a lot of suspense in here that puts both Shay and Brody in jeopardy. I loved the dynamic between Shay and Brody so much. Two damaged souls learning to love their art again while starting to love one another? Amazing. Seriously. This was such a good book! Plenty of suspense to keep me reading and I just loved Shay and Brody as a couple.
