A fun and smart mystery with a propulsive plot and a unique relationship between a step mom and her step daughter. It started off with a wonderful premise of a note left byt a husband to "protect her" and throughout the book there seemed to be a few different mysteries to solve. It felt like we were able to "play along" and there were many times I felt very immersed within the stories. I wouldn't call any of the characters lovabale but I could feel their emotions and feel empathy for them. 

Laura Dave did a great job writing a family thriller without it being too twisty and keeping the reader engaged during the ENTIRE story. It takes elements that I love including dysfunctional family, twists, complicated relationships, and a great ending.
