The majority of the novel was brilliant and surprisingly easy to read despite the nature of the plot. The interlude in the middle of the novel exploring Mahmood's youth was a little slower, but still well written and an important part of the character development.
The epilogue is heartbreaking, but the impact on the Mattan family is perhaps the most relevant part of the whole novel.
