There's something so incredibly human and cathartic about this play.
Some of the reasons I love this play...
1. The examination of relationships, parenthood and society's expectations of parents is so brilliantly blended with a subtle narrative on climate change and how people are reacting to the current climate crisis.
2. W's monologue about her complex views of motherhood and giving birth to the Eiffel Tower and M's monologue about feeling like the proton to her electron but there still being parts of her that he doesn't completely understand. Oooof!! The dialogue in this play is so beautifully written.
3. How some of the conversations between M and W in this are so visceral and intimate. It almost feels like you are intruding on a private moment between two people as a reader/audience member. Like some of the things they're saying are things about them and their relationship that you shouldn't be privy to.
4. I loved and hated the two main characters so much. At some points I thought they were both utterly horrible people and at other points I found myself completely agreeing with either one or both of them and by the end was totally rooting for their happiness. Ultimately, that's probably a testament to how well M and W were crafted. They're flawed and difficult and complex and human.
