Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louis
5.0

I maintain that Lia Louis is one of the best contemporary fiction writers ever. Not only does she write real, relatable characters but she managed to write and talk about pretty heavy subjects in such a respectful and delicate way.
There is no over-describing of a person or situation, but there is brilliant story telling and character development.
This story really stole my heart. I loved Emmie and thought she was so relatable for many reasons. I loved who she was and thought she made decisions that were reasonable and she wasn’t cliched it frustrating.
Lucas & Eliot were fantastic characters for very different reasons, and the ending was pure perfection.
This book really showed me Lia’s writing range: she wrote Somewhere Close To Happy, which granted, is a form of contemporary fiction with a hint of romance but with a twist, and this is fantastic contemporary fiction but with such a different arc.
I genuinely can’t wait to see what she writes next, and I’ll be eagerly waiting for it!!
