Nightflyers and Other Stories
by George R.R. Martin
3.5 rating overall. It was better than I expected but not entirely fantastic.
Nightflyers 5/5- Probably the best one out of the bunch. I thought it was tense and exciting, but the ending was a little awkward. I liked the ending but I didn’t like the switch in POV.
Override 4/5- I always enjoy some casual necromancy. A cool concept and world-building.
Weekend In a Warzone 1/5- Boring and I really disliked the main character.
And Seven Times Never Kill Man 3/5- I think the concept and world in this story were really interesting, but the characters weren’t interesting which made me care less about the plot.
Nor The Many-Colored Fires of a Star Ring 1/5- Also really boring. It also felt like a weird gender-bent version of the last story in this collection. Probably the least interesting to me.
A Song For Lya 3/5- Also one that had a neat concept and world. I liked Lya, and enjoyed seeing the story unfold. But I though the sex scenes were weird and I didn’t like Rob really. It had some interesting philosophy by the end though.
