Though this got a bit repetitive after a while I overall liked the pondering of the sorrow in Istanbul and the author's family relationships. As the name says don't except to read only about Pamuk's family. This memoir has historical details and descriptions of the city of Istanbul. It's left to the reader to decide how much the two subjects intertwine.
