You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost)
by Felicia Day
Day's self deprecating humor comes across as kind of mean as she describes her childhood, but by the chapters about acting after college and especially as she delves into creating The Guild I started to really get into this book, and there are so many laugh out loud funny stories. Day is very anxious and insecure in a way that I super relate to, and she shares herself very openly with the reader. One thing that bothered me was in some language choices, especially her use of the word vagina when referring to women's experiences, which just gives me a cringe reaction in the way it excludes trans women, who generally face more severe hostility for existing in male dominated spaces. I'm not sure if Day would choose different language if she were writing this book today. Her chapter about how much interacting with fans has meant to her was the highlight of the book for me, and almost made me cry. Overall, despite a few issues I kinda loved this book, and I definitely feel inspired to be creative and put things I make out there!
