East of Eden
by John Steinbeck
Mr Steinbeck truly did have insight into the human spirit. I hoped and mourned with Adam, I dreamt with Samuel, I raged with Cal, I felt Lee’s love and frustration, I was stunned by Cathy. I was transported back to a tumultuous time out country’s history when people feared drought, fought in wars, and when some people were content with their patch of dirt to farm and a dream.
East of Eden follows the Trask family and the Hamilton family on their journeys to settle in the Salinas Valley of California. Each family has its own trials, failures, successes, and dreams. They meet and hope to achieve their mutual dream of living in paradise. They all learned that family and life become what you make of them.
