I enjoyed Greenwild, it is an entertaining and heartwarming story with a nice level of whimsy. There was one particular moment in the book that stood out to me where something is revealed that I did not see coming and it was lovely, emotional and somewhat bittersweet.

My biggest problem with the book was its predictability (with of course the big exception of the one reveal mentioned above). The story features multiple common tropes, the villain is clearly identifiable from early on, the beats of the story seemed to follow a standard template, and overall it just felt like a book I've read many times before. This is not by any means to say that I don't recommend the book because I did enjoy it.

I have to give some praise to the illustrator Elisa Paganelli, whose style I instantly recognised. It's a truly beautiful book, especially the Waterstones special edition, with stunning endpapers and so many great interior illustrations.
