I was so excited to read Bleak Harbor — blurbed by Gillian Flynn (one of my favorite authors) — but it just wasn’t for me.

Basically, I liked the premise but didn’t enjoy the execution. Bryan Gruley is no stranger to mysteries; he is well known for his Starvation Lake series. However, I felt like his writing in this book was not that of a seasoned author. Bleak Harbor seemed a little scattered and lacked good pacing that is necessary in this genre.

Overall, I feel like Bleak Harbor fell short. I wanted to like this book more, but I just didn’t connect. I’m sure some fans of mysteries would enjoy this read, though.
