A game of cat and mouse as Emmy Danvers has taken over her father's (a thief) Nightjar mantle to get back the crown jewels of France and Lord Alex Harland - a Bow Street Runner determined to catch the famous Nightjar.

I was surprised that he figured out who Emmy is about the middle of the book. I thought it wouldn't happen until more towards the end. But then he decides to play a game and seduce her as he lays a trap with one of the jewels she was after. This begins an affair where she knows he's going to have to turn her in and he knows it too, so the romance seemed a little weird to me.
