Love You a Latke

Not vibing with Abby and this writing. Feels very Lifetime original holiday movie [in a derogatory way, cause I do love a lot of these but certainly not all].
I think people underestimate how hard Rom Coms are to write well. Talia Hibbert is a great example of someone who is super skilled and has an amazing voice. Elliot’s voice came off overly sarcastic and a little mean. The FMC is overly mopey, down-on-her-luck but also I felt wildly unsympathetic as a reader. I’ve seen many an author complain about readers not liking “difficult” female characters. And while I think there is some level of internalized misogyny in the romance reading community my *very hot take* is that the majority of times it’s because the author did not write a compelling main character. Reading is a conversation between two people and the understanding does not always break down on the reader’s end.
I'm not super surprised Abby's business is failing. She seems - not so great at customer service. And not particularly self-aware. ~It’s giving~ I’ve never actually worked in the service industry or done much research on it but I’m gonna write about it anyway.
