I received this as an ARC from NetGalley. I believe it is a re-release. I didn't know in advance this was part of an extensive series. I don't feel like I missed anything by not reading the previous books. Overall,  I enjoyed this story. It moved along quickly, and kept me guessing. I would say, I believe a bit more could have been done throughout the story to ramp up the tension and uncertainty.
