Are You Listening?
by Tillie Walden
TW: rape, death of a parent
I have no idea what I just read. Some of this was beautiful and then some of it was just weird. I appreciate that is addressed some serious issues and our main character had the support she needed, but then it just went off on a weird path. It was like magical realism but not?? I can't really explain it. Considering this was a longer graphic novel (300+ pages,) I expected a lot more explanation. We had a lot of panels where NOTHING happens though, and I feel it could have been utilized to tell the story better. I enjoyed it enough though to push through, but I don't care to ever look back on it.
