Ouch, this was not good.

Listen, people just hate Bendis to hate him. I personally enjoy a lot of Bendis work. I know some make fun of his writing style but sorry, dude gave me one of the greatest runs of Daredevi, the perfect Spider-man in ultimate Spider-man, super fun adventures of New Avengers, Alias is near masterpiece for me, and I liked his X-men/Iron-man too even if they both kind of went bad by the end.

Anyway, point is, I don't usually dislike his stuff but this...was boring.

So the first issue we get the background of Quill. Remember that touching moment in the movie where Peter gets to say goodbye to his mother who has cancer? Nah, fuck that. We get a alien invasion in which they shoot his mother and try to kill him but he fights back. Jump forward and we have the guardians working with Iron-man to stop a threat to the world. In fact, it's more of like the guardians becoming the avengers for a bit. Then...it ends.

Good: I liked some of it, the fights being big in scope and fun. I also thought the very start of it was pretty cool till the death. Rocket is funny, screaming "Blam, murder, you're dead" is pretty funny. Groot looks cool.

Bad: Gamora and Drax are both boring as can be and give nothing to the team except some fight scenes. These don't feel like a family, and I know it's unfair to compare to the movies, but they really missed the mark here. The art sometimes is too dark, making Peter look mad all the time. The inclusion of Iron Man adds really nothing, just to promote the work more I'm assuming because this was before the movie.

Yeah, overall, not feeling this at all. So much so I'll probably stop here. I just don't really see the appeal and if I go by the ratings of the series, this is one of the stronger books. Yikes. A 2 out of 5.
