The Bad Ones
by Melissa Albert
this feels like a watered-down Our Crooked Hearts :(
Albert’s writing is gorgeous as usual, but sadly that cannot overpower how weak the rest of the story is
there’s too many characters that are introduced, then contribute almost nothing. i remember almost no one from whatever Nora’s club was. was it the school newspaper?? i literally do not remember
speaking of Nora, she was very very bland and we learned almost nothing about her.
also hated where the romance subplot went, you cannot convince me that Nora and Becca are not a sapphic couple. you’re telling me that, despite this intense bond Nora and Becca have that goes so far back, AND THEIR INTERACTIONS AFTER BECCA RETURNS, that Nora goes for mr emo artist boy? i refuse to believe it
something i find extremely funny (in a good way) though is seeing how the amount of queer rep goes up in each new Melissa Albert release. like iirc the hazelwood had no one queer, our crooked hearts had a gay brother (i think), and the bad ones has a Multitude Of Lesbians it’s so fun
