This book follows a girl who's dad accidentally read three characters out of a book called Inkheard; two villains and a fire-breather called Dustfinger. And his wife went in.

I love Inkheart. It's got a great concept, where characters are read out of the book. It makes me wonder if I'd actually want to meet my favourite characters or live in their world, and if they'd enjoy ours. Maggie is a great protagonist and booknerd. And so is her Aunt Elinor. This novel is full of things that booknerds despite too, mainly Elinor's library.

The plot is simple but engaging and Capricorn makes and epic, heartless villain. I would have loved to read more about him in the Inkheart in the book (the one Fengolio wrote). It also brought up many points about the way people act towards people who love books. The police officers didn't really care that Elinor's library was trashed, nor did they believe her about the kidnapping. They just though she was a crazy lady with her books. Also, how many people believe that authors wrecking dead and thus reading is outdated. I wonder how many hit movies we would have if The Hunger Games The Lord of the Ring, and Harry Potter were not written by authors, two of whom are still alive.
