3rd read - July 7th 2023 - July 11th 2023 (physical and audio)
This is one of my favorite books of all time. I don’t really put that lightly when I talk about books. I’ve probably read around 400 books in the last 5 years, and not many of those books have stuck with me as often as this one. Everything about this story makes it be one of my favorites. The unique world, the characters, especially Jude herself, the growth of Jude throughout the story, the banter and relationship between Jude and Cardan, the found family aspects, the crazy ass plot twists at the end. I will never ever get tired of this story.
But since I’ve said all of that below, I guess I don’t really need to say anymore. The only things different this 3rd read was that I absolutely hate you know who even more this time around, and my sister hated them both probably more than me, which was absolutely hilarious to hear her scream at them. Speaking of my sister, this was her first time read of this book. We buddy read this together (after me completely terrorizing her about not reading this for about 4 years), who is now absolutely obsessed now with this world and these characters. She said if she had Goodreads she would give this book a 4.5 out of 5.
So anyways, I guess that’s all the new things I have to say about this book this time around. Regardless, I just adore this story so much. I really think Jude and Cardan were one of the main book couples and characters that completely cemented my love for reading, and I will forever be grateful for this story. Overall, still 5/5 stars and I’m really excited to give The Wicked King a reread bc it’s literally been forever since I read that book.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I love it more than the first time, and I love the characters, the writing, the twists and turns, and the magic system.
This was such a pleasant reread, and I loved this audiobook too! I flew through this within at least 4 hours, and I can honestly say, this series is in my top 5 favorites of all time

I loved this book.
It was everything I wanted in a fantasy and more.
I love Holly Black’s writing. I love the way she writes her characters. Yes while her faeries are mean, evil, and cruel it adds to the story and plot. Her characters make the story better and they add to everything.
Her writing is also fantastic. The way she writes emotions in her characters, the way she writes climaxes and transitions, thoughts, and character traits is astonishing to me.
She’s such an amazing writer.
I also love the world, character development, world building, and plot twists.
The world was so complex yet Holly Black made it so easy to understand. Holly Black can also DEVELOP characters.
For example, at the beginning Jude (our main character) was in a way naive. Sure she’s gone through some shit in her life, but she took everything the faeries gave her without complaint. But soon Jude realized that she didn’t want to spend her whole entire life like that, and she fought back and basically became a badass.
We also have great world building (as good as she develops her characters).
And her plot twists. Can we fucking TALK ABOUT HER PLOT TWISTS. HOLLY BLACK CAN WRITE A FUCKING PLOT TWIST. Towards the end when the plot twist was coming, I didn’t expect it AT ALL. When we were revealed the plot twist I stopped reading, looked up, and gasped then reread what I needed to, to make sure I read it right. OMG her plot twists were amazing and I didn’t see any of them coming AT ALL.
So in conclusion I think it’s safe to say this book was ABSOLUTELY, FUCKING AMAZING. Holly Black please keep up what your doing because!
