Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome
3.0

i think a good amount of what i missed to enjoy this story more where two things:
1. the knowledge of the places mentioned in the book
2. the type of humor used in this book

now don’t get me wrong, i see the humor and i can understand why some people love this.

but for me it was a bit too over the top, forced and “hahaha aren’t i funny?!” humor that i personally don’t enjoy. and if i do only in very small doses. and for that this book was too long.

i also think all the pointed comments about the places the crew ended up at went over my head because i just do my know most of those places and i guess that if you know the mentioned places it could be funny? or at least amusing in a pointed kind of way. but without that knowledge ... it just didn’t work for me.

i also think that the author added a few too many side plots that shouldn’t have been on the book, made it unnecessary long and had nothing at all to do with the actual overall plot of the men and their trip.

clearly it’s not a new favorite of mine.
but as far as i can tell that’s more of a me thing then a book thing since it just ticks a lot of the boxes that i just do not enjoy i’m books.

oh well at least i tried!
