A powerful book. Captivating and thrilling. But hard to read as the depiction of the treatment of people of colour is explicit and hard to digest. But it's more than just worthwhile to dig through and read it to the end.

I don't think this really classifies as a science fiction novel though. The SF element of time travel is just a tool, a means to start the story.
