The Beautiful is the highly anticipaited new release from Renée Ahdieh. We follow Celine who moves to New Orleans in 1872. A series of murders starts happening, seeming to target people around Celine. She also meets the very handsome and mysterious Bastien, and is tempted into the dark underworld of New Orleans.
This book is pitched as a dark vampire book. I thought: Finally, vampires are back! But really, it felt like a letdown in that regard because vampires are not really that present in the book. When we finally are going to get more information and answers about them, we ultimately don’t really get any… so the expectations I had going in; weren’t really met. That doesn’t mean however that what I got, I disliked! Looking away from the instalove, I really enjoyed the different characters and writing. The cast of characters are filled with diversity and witty dialogue. The things I liked, I really really liked. So even though it didn’t meet my expectations, didn’t make it a completely disappointing read. And the end left me wanting more! 3.75/5 stars.
