"A Brief History of Seven Killings" failed to keep me interested. I started the book in the middle of March and just finished it in the beginning of June. I can usually finish a book of this size in less than a week, but the lack of a connected plot in the first half of the book did nothing to keep my interest. The last two parts of the book held more of a plot, and I found that it was easier to keep interest once I got to the fourth and fifth parts. I admire the amount of detail that Marlon James put into the book and it was interesting to read into the world of the Jamaican drug world. The details made it easier to understand the time and place of each section. The Jamaican slang/language was difficult to understand at times because I had never heard of most of the terms and I had think of what each term meant while reading.

My main complaint about "A Brief History of Seven Killings" was that each chapter was in the point of view of a different person and it was hard to connect each of the characters to each other. I found myself looking at the list of people at the front of the book quite often.
