A Holly Jolly Diwali by Sonya Lalli

funny informative lighthearted reflective medium-paced

This was a fun book to break up the strictly Christmas ones I've been reading for December. I like that it takes place between Diwali and Christmas but more leans towards Diwali celebrations and other Indian celebrations like weddings.

Sam and Niki are instantly attracted to each other. Their flirty banter is so cute and fun. I loved that Niki took a chance to attend her best friend's wedding in India and was able to meet Sam. I love how they keep getting interrupted when they try to kiss. Sam's mom is a hoot and I liked her (not so) subtle attempts to encourage them both.

I like how Niki stood up for herself in the face of some prejudices from within her own community. I like that she realized that it was ok to be comfortable with how she was raised by her Punjabi parents.

I really like learning about other cultures and the India culture and atmosphere is so festive and lively.
